Take an early trip to San Diego to check out some Shelf Porn

pat002

Happy Saturday and welcome to another edition of Shelf Porn, where fans show off their collections. Today’s shelves come from Pat Loika, an artist and podcaster out of San Diego, who shows us his books, statues, original art and more. No doubt Pat will be adding to it in a couple of weeks at Comic-Con.

And now let’s hear from Pat …

*****

Hey everyone, Pat Loika here. I host the Loikamania podcast, and I’ve been a comic fan all my life. While I’ve written and drawn comics through the years, I still love collecting them. So here’s a look at my collection.

I’ve actually started cutting down my collecting of paper books and have been an avid digital reader. The books I truly love are the ones I end up using to fill the bookcases.

pat001

Once you enter, the first thing you’ll see by the door is some art. Up here is a Terry Dodson Emma Frost, Wolverine & The X-Men page by David Lopez and a Winter Soldier by Mitch Gerads. Yes, that’s a Katana.

pat002

The first shelves. To the far right, Vertigo, Dark Horse, Humanoids and other oversized hardcovers. In the middle, DC hardcovers. Absolutes are in the bottom shelves. On the hanging shelf are Emma Frost and Psylocke statues from Sideshow, and a Bowen Designs Thor by the PS3. Some art by Dave Stokes and Jeremy Haun accompany the statues, with a Terry Dodson print in the middle.

pat003

Then we have three bookcases of Marvel hardcovers (except for the bottom shelf on the last one). We have some Bowen designs statues and some Hot Toys figures above, as well as some art by John Paul Leon and Chris Samnee. Yes. That is an Infinity Gauntlet.

pat004

The little shelf is full of DC softcovers, the tall shelf has Wildstorm, Image, Vertigo, Oni and other softcovers. The mini-cabinet has more thick books, guarded by a Hot Toys Batman figure.

pat005

Above, are some John Paul Leon pieces.

pat006

We pull back to reveal another tall shelf. It has New 52 and Vertigo hardcovers, more softcover trades, and art books, including a number of Artist Editions from IDW.

pat007

To the left, another hardcover shelf with Dark Horse, Image, Dynamite, IDW and other publishers. Next to that, a shelf of Marvel softcover trades. On the hanging shelves are more Bowen statues, and lots of art. There’s a Chris Samnee piece up there, as well as pieces by Steve Epting, Matteo Scalera and Tony Moore. Also on display are my Avengers Hot Toys figures.

pat008

We pull back, and you see my drawing/work table. There are more pieces of art, including pages by Ramon Perez, Michael Lark, Alex Maleev and Olivier Coipel. More Hot Toys and Sideshow figures are above, and more Bowen statues.

pat009

We close out by zooming in on the Avengers Hot Toys figures. As you can see, the Hulk is running late.

Thanks for checking out my place, hope you guys enjoyed it!

That’s pretty sweet.

AWESOME!

nice espically love how you managed to be able to display all your figures at the very top to the ceiling without them deciding to take a dive off. and also love that infinity gauntlet prop.

What kind of shelving units are those? I’m running into the problem with the oversized marvel books or really any books lately causing shelf bowing or sagging and even breakage.

This is the best entry in forever. I love the collections that focus mostly on books – after all, the comics are what it’s all about, right?! – and this is books plus. Excellent stuff.

Amazing loved it. Looks used, yet pristine.
The infinity gauntlet is awesome, where can I get one????

I am green with envy. My ohc and omnibus collection is about a third of yours. Well done sir.

Look like IKEA Billy bookcases. I have the same kind. Only one of them, but the same look.. .

Great display. I love how the figures and statues are high above the books on their own shelves. I plan on emulating this design when I get my new man cave.

I have to stop looking at these Shelf Porn articles. All they do is upset me and remind me of how ridiculously poor I am.

Very classy sir!

Mikey Wood,
i share your sentiment.
But just like porn .. i can’t stop looking at ‘em :)

Wow! Having that many statues that high above the ground, on such a small board takes guts! But then again, your girlfriend might not run into walls and shelfes like mine, so maybe they are safe there. My girl decimated my Black and White Batman collection from 7 statues to 2 in the 3 years we are together. (She bought me a lifesize replica of the dark knight cowl and a few 1/6 koto statues to make up for it though)

What I wanted to say, man… Great collection. More of a Marvel guy, it seems, but apart from that WOWEEEE!!!

Thanks so much, guys! The funny thing is, I took these photos in April. It’s changed a bit since then.

And Augie is correct, those are Ikea Billy book cases.

Yeah Ikea Billy bookcases are pretty awesome for collecting graphic novels, because they’re pretty sturdy, comparatively very cheap, and most importantly the shelves are adjustable.

Excellent collection! Thanks for sharing!

I didn’t know that there were that many omnibuses out there! I can only dream of having enough money to blow so that i can have a room even close to this awesome.

Now thats an shelf porn entry! So much stuff in there that’s a library! VERY impressive
