Happy Labor Day weekend, America, and welcome, everyone, to another round of Shelf Porn. Today’s collection comes from Shane in South Dakota, who shares his graphic novels and sport memorabilia with us.

If you’d like to see your collection featured here on Shelf Porn, check out the submission instructions for complete details.

And now let’s hear from Shane …

*****

I’ve been collecting comics since 1975, I stopped for a time between 1988 and 98 when I was running around trying to decide what I wanted to be when I grew up, but came back to them with the same passion I had as a child. I only collect trades currently as that is what my budget can afford. I also get many books via interlibrary loan to read and enjoy. I do the ordering of graphic novels for our local library as our librarians have no clue what to order. I also do comic book talks at libraries and via Ignite events. I also get to show up and talk geek on a local radio station. I do my part to spread the word about sequential story telling. Here is my graphic novel and trade collection. The long boxes are all put away and waiting for the boy to get old enough to take care of them. He loves comics, but at 5 he’s not ready to care for them properly yet.

Over sized books and reference including 3 books on the far right of my wives. She is obsessed with all things continental. Also good to keep Lost Girls and Library Meadows up high away from the 5 year olds hands.

Mythic Fiction shelf. I have a hard time waiting on the Fables Deluxe volumes so I make sure the library buys the Trades when they are released so I can keep up. I cannot wait for the next Stuff of Legend Omnibus to come out. Really good. Also looking forward to the Unwritten/Fables crossover.

I call this my Indy Shelf but I have a friend who calls it my Soap Opera Shelf. Terry Moores books, Scott Pilgrim, Walking Dead, Morning Glories, Lock and Key probably all fit that description…but then there is Planetary. Ah well…the bottom line is they are all just damn good books.

Marvel Shelf. My wife has just started to buy me Uncanny X-Force. She works for Barnes and Noble college division so she gets a decent discount. As I look at it here I see there is a TON of Wolverine, but if you asked me for my favorite characters I doubt he would make my top 10.

DC Comics shelf. As you can see I’m a big Batman Fan. I think the Morrison run on Batman is possibly the best stuff that has been put out in comics in the last 25 years.

Bottom row catch all. Still waiting for Wagner to finish Mage. Need to catch up on the Goon. Started it and never finished. Man is Punk Rock Jesus Good.

My main book shelves.

King and Gaiman…not a bad couple of shelves.

Prizes of the bottom shelf here are my copy of World According to Garp, Princess Bride and the first 3 collections of Bloom County.

This is going to sound off-topic as hell, but I like what he did with the windows. Having a stained faux-picture frame thing is clever and ties in with shelves.

I see I sent two of the same picture. The Gaiman King Shelf picture should have been on there with all my Dark Tower books and Graphic Novels and all of my Sandman/Gaiman graphic novels. Thanks for putting my stuff online.

Very nice. I can’t wait to get my trades and hard covers to that size. The best thing about your collection was the BRONCOS stuff! Haha. Go Broncos. Huge fan of your collection and great taste!

cool collection love the way the steven king stuff is displayed plus having a copy of calvin and hobbes. a cool collection

Actually that was my fault, Shane … I’ve switched out the pictures so it’s displaying the right one now.

Thanks JK Parkin…and thanks for featuring my humble collection.

Here is my office with added book shelf above picture window.

I’ve been on a buying spree lately adding Tom Strong, Top 10, Rising Stars and Authority. I am also still keeping up on the regular trade buys of course (Fables, Fairest, Hawkeye, Rachel Rising, Unwritten, Saga, Morning Glories, Mouse Guard, Mice Templar, Wolverine and X-Men)

Here are new close ups of my shelves.

I really have a horrible problem…

Nice collection! I’ve gotta agree on the Calvin and Hobbes, its my prized collection as well. Found it at Costco for $30! Have to disagree on the broncos, its all about my Niners!
Demoncat4, we ever going to see your collection? I noticed you are a regular on the shelf porn comments section.

This looks very similar to my art room, which features the entire run of Calvin and Hobbes, my sports hats melded with comic book/video game stuff ( A Cal Bears knit cap on a Killzone skull model for instance), a crapload of Stephen King and a bunch of graphic novels. Only big difference is most of my stuff is non-superhero and I also have a lot of Dune-related material.

The best thing about your collection is the fact that EVERYTHING looks like it’s been read to death! That’s the way it’s supposed to be!!

What about Alex Raymond’s FLASH GORDON,
Raymond’s RIP KIRBY,
Gould’s DICK TRACY,
Lee Falk’s THE PHANTOM, ….???

No, really, you’ve got a great collection. Wished I had a wife that could get ME a discount.
Lucky you.
