Silicon Valley Shelf Porn from a Young Adult author

Bowens

Welcome once again to the column we’re proud to call Shelf Porn, where fans share their collections for the world to see. Today’s collection comes from Kevin Sharp, an English teacher and author from Palo Alto, California. Kevin shows us his graphic novels, statues and some commissions from Steve Rude and John Byrne.

If you’d like to see your collection featured here on Shelf Porn, check out the submission instructions for complete details.

Take it away, Kevin …

*****

My name is Kevin Sharp and I teach high school English in Palo Alto, California. For those asking “Where?!” think Stanford University (about 30 minutes outside San Francisco).

The Shelf Porn items are mostly contained in one room of my home, which I guess we can call the Man Cave. When we moved into our new house, the previous owners had converted the former garage into a carpeted, insulated extra room. It even came complete with built-in shelves, which I felt it was my duty to fill!

The reading material in this room is made of items I can easily grab off the shelf. I also have an office where my comic books and “real” books are stored, and where I live my double life as an author.

Room

Here’s the view from one of the two TV viewing seats.

Byrne

This is a John Byrne commission from 2010. The scene I asked for was Batman dropping in on a villains’ meeting (featuring my three favorite Batman villains).

GL

This is a Steve Rude Green Lantern watercolor commission from 2004.

Bowens

Here is my limited Bowen Designs heroes collection.

Busts

Bowen busts, DC Absolutes, and some 1970s treasury comics on the left.

Case

Once upon a time, this case held my entire statue collection.

Silver

I’ll call this my Silver Age DC table.

Books

Here’s the majority of my graphic novel collection, along with my Bowen villains.

Glasses

I know people with the entire line of Toon Tumblers but I only get the characters I really love (though if I had more shelves…).

Pictures

Steve Rude, Adam Hughes, and of course “King” Kirby.

Zatanna

This is a signed Adam Hughes poster print I carried home from San Diego Comic Con one year. I didn’t have a tube so I was in constant paranoia until I arrived back.

cover

And finally, a shameless plug for my Young Adult novel that came out earlier this year (look for it on Amazon).

Awesomeness to the max. I love the framed art. I’m rocking that Ikea display case right now and soon hope to also say “use to hold my entire collection”. Well done sir.

A well rounded out collection, loved the diverse collection of statues and books. The Byrne batman piece was awesome

Fantastic collection. The Byrne commission is a real stunner, well deserving of the place of honor it holds.

Nice to see a local boy do good (down in Sunnyvale). How much for the Rude Dude commission?

Hello! I don’t suppose you would be interested in selling that Adam Hughes print? Thanks!
