‘This is the first time in my life I’ve ever had money to speak of’

2-guns“I’m doing another one with Boom! right now. I’m probably going to stick with Boom! for the time being. Boom! has been very, very good to me. I’m not going out of my way right now to get a lot of projects off the ground, because then I’d have to do them. But I do have a couple of things that I’ve got going, little things here and there. I kind of like being able to relax. This is the first time in my life I’ve ever had money to speak of. So now I can relax a little bit, and I can just work on things that I want to work on. I don’t have to scramble for work.”

— veteran writer Steven Grant, when asked whether the Universal Pictures adaptation of 2 Guns has paved the way for more comics projects.

As The New York Times recently detailed, BOOM! Studios offers a “creator share” model in which Grant received a cut of what the studio paid for the film rights, said to be “just shy of seven figures.”

Glad to see he’s benefiting.

Because the reviews suggest audiences won’t.

Make the BADLANDS movie already!

Geez.

Very glad to hear about Grant’s success with “2 Guns”…it was a fun comic, and the guy has been plugging away in the trenches long enough that he’s certainly earned it. And Simon, the reviews aren’t bad….61% at Rotten Tomatoes (so just barely “fresh”) and 97% of users want to see it, so it looks like it’ll have a pretty successful weekend. Looks like a fun mindless popcorn movie to me.

Creator owned is the way to go . . . I’m glad Boom does this and Image, they are the place to be. Steal the talent y’all.

Creator shared agreements–now THAT is something that should be instituted at the Big Two, once they get a change in management.
