Cartoonist Matt Bors has made significant inroads for himself, political cartooning and comics journalism since taking on the role as editor of Medium‘s comics hub The Nib in September. And now in 2014, he’s taking it one step further: Bors has announced an all-star weekday lineup that will see “over 15″ new comics debut on the site each week. His new roster of weekly comics contributors are:
In addition, The Nib will also feature new installments of such series as Ruben Bolling’s Tom The Dancing Bug, Tom Tomorrow’s This Modern World, Jen Sorensen’s Slowpoke, Erika Moen’s Oh Joy, Sex Toy, Ryan Pequin’s Three World Phrase and Shannon Wheeler’s Too Much Coffee Man. Susie Cagle will be contributing a twice-monthly comic about Silicon Valley, and Bors promises new work by Andy Warner, Julia Wetz, Josh Neufeld, Keith Knight, Sarah Glidden, Ron Wimberly, and many more.
Although political cartoons are associated near exclusively in people’s minds with the withering traditional newspaper industry, the cartoons themselves have quietly become part and parcel of Internet culture and shared frequently on social media. Bors’ wrangling of so many strong political cartoonists under one banner is emboldening for comics professionals, and a treasure trove for comics fans with an interest in news and world events.
