Passings | Award-winning science fiction and fantasy author Lucius Shepard, whose work included Life During Wartime and The Jaguar Hunter, passed away March 18. He was 66. Shepard ventured into comics writing on a few occasions, with the series Vermillion, part of DC Comics’ short-lived Helix imprint, and with contributions to Vertigo anthologies Gangland and Flinch. Thanks for the notice of Lucius Shepard’s passing. As far as I can see, you are the only one in the comics web to note it. Shepard was truly a superlative writer, and gave me many hours of enjoyment. For anyone who never read him, I urge them to do so. He wrote in an extremely dense, rich, flowing, prose style that I find quite beautiful to read. Vermillion’s pacing was off, but I thought it was a darn good read. Any fan of good writing should take the time to acquaint themselves with his work; there’s a great deal of enjoyment there. Rest well, and thanks for the excellent work, Mr. Shepard.
