‘If there’s a movie you’re gonna lose money on, make it Wonder Woman’

“When I first got this role I just cried like a baby because I was like, ‘Wow, next Halloween, I’m gonna open the door and there’s gonna be a little kid dressed as the Falcon.’ That’s the thing that always gets me. I feel like everybody deserves that. I feel like there should be a Latino superhero. Scarlett does great representation for all the other girls, but there should be a Wonder Woman movie. I don’t care if they make 20 bucks, if there’s a movie you’re gonna lose money on, make it Wonder Woman. You know what I mean, ’cause little girls deserve that. There’s so many of these little people out here doing awful things for money in the world of being famous. And little girls see that. They should have the opposite spectrum of that to look up to.”

Captain America: The Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie, discussing playing the Falcon, and the need for more representation of women and minorities in superhero movies

Very much agreed. However, the cynic in me wants to point out that any WW movie made today will be PG-13, and too dark to bring “little girls” to. (i.e. see “Man of Steel”)

Terrible financial sense, but what a good attitude and enthusiasm. I hope some idiot suit at WB reads this.

Anthony Mackie’s enthusiasm for this role and his awareness that children of colour are under-represented made me happy to pony up my dollars to see the film.

Is more than just a WW movie, it needs to be a good movie. I doubt it’ll be family friendly like those in Marvel, or the Winter Soldier, but it should have a vision that prepares itself in the long run. Captain America did that, and The Winter Soldier was a good payoff. It has worked because Marvel made it work, and as of now, Captain America is the best Marvel movie to date. The Winter Soldier was an awesome movie. And it didn’t need the Avengers or three villains to work. That’s just good ol character development, and give the Russo brothers huge props for doing their homework.

I don’t want WB/DC to lose money, I want them to make money. And the last thing I want from DC is to make a bad movie. Because if they fail to do it the right way, I’m gonna say screw the Justice League. Let’s get the Bat universe running full steam instead and bring the Bat-family up in here.

They already have plenty of female heroines for the costumier, and they have all been written and performed to feminist standards. That is no reason to make a Wonder Woman movie, especially when you consider the homosexual standards of female beauty dominant in Hollywood that would cast an frail, weak model in the role of a tall, muscular Amazon warioress.

My daughter was Wonder Woman for Halloween. And with all the Justice League cartoons, there really isn’t a lack of stuff for her to watch with Wonder Woman in it. As pointed out before, if its anything like the Nolan Batman films or the Man of Steel movie, a Wonder Woman movie would be far too violent for me to take my daughter to see anyway.

The Avengers was PG-13, and every kid watched that. A rating is just a rating. A PG-13 Wonder Woman would not prevent parents from taking their kids to see the movie, so long as they choose the colorful Avengers tone rather than the dreary Man of Steel tone.

Hey Serp as a homosexual I’d like to say that I’d want a tall, sexy, woman who looks the part of an Amazon Warrior to play Wonder Woman in a film. It’s the Heterosexual men that would make the movie who would want to cast some pretty, skinny supermodel type who is only there to look good in a costume that would basically be a glorified bathing suit rater than something a fighter would actually wear.

Hopefully they can pick a story arc that’d be interesting.

If they start making films for each member of the JL. I only fear Aquamans movie that’s the only one I see made to fail.

I don’t see WW failing as movies in a classical/ancient times have done well. It just needs to be written well

-from a Droid apologies for typos/errors.

I get the complaints about a Wonder Woman movie being too whatever for young girls but as much as I agree with Anthony Mackie who was great in a great movie, Winter Soldier was also a fairly dark movie, compared to the rest of the MCU. That was part of what it did well in being willing to be that bold. So, I can’t say I have a problem with a little more of a mature WW story like with what we’re seeing with most of the other superhero films.

Give Wonder Woman to Joss Whedon! He has made a career of shows with strong women of all kinds of back stories and personalities and he plunks them into amazing stories without sacrificing anything or missing a beat. Buffy, Inara, Willow, Natasha, Kaylie, River, Echo, and my hero Zoe Washburn are all different but very real and well worth watching. He is able to portray them as powerful or vulnerable while keeping them real. He’s the only one that could bring the amazon to the screen.

I just don’t understand how hard it is to make a movie on Wonder Woman. I liked how they introduced her in Justice League with the New 52. She was straight forward, innocent to our cultural norms and approachable to those that were not closed minded but she had a very clear view of what is right and wrong that the viewer could identify with.
Personally, if they would stay away from trying to make her into a rehash of Linda Carter (nothing against her but a WW movie should not be that) or make her out to be the hard core soldier….that would be good.
Set the movie during the WWII era so she won’t have to share her time with Superman or anyone else, let her pull off her own Captain America moment that would shift her to the here and now at the end and there you go. Just doing that would take a lot of pressure off the DC ppl so they wouldn’t have to directly worry about how she would fit in to the big scheme of things.

I think that it shouldn’t be that hard to do a Wonder Woman movie. All this talk about it being too mature is dumb too. Wonder Woman isn’t anymore inherently mature than, say…. Thor, who routinely beats his villains with a hammer.

Come on DC/warner just give us a Wonder Woman movie already . .she deserves it look at her animated movie sales figure’s it was the fourth grossing in sales yet you refused to make another ? Yet the gl movie’s made less and you have several animated film’s for him… SHAME !

@Serp what Homosexual standards ??? Stereotype much ???
As a gay man I find that very offensive since most of us that read comics actually want the opposite to what you FALSLY claim we support and somehow portray
We dont want frail women who are nothing more than boobs and airheads we want the role to be plsyed by a strong woman who can carry carry herself and play a strong amazon the posts about Gal Gadot you’ll find 99% of the posts about her not having big enough tits written by hetero males NOT us .

Sorry but Black Panther First…

Intelligent and right on target. Makes me upset that no action figures of him are being made in the current Capt America movie line, and even Black Widow is packed like 1 for every 10 Capt. or Winter Soldiers…

Some of you are missing the point of this quote. Not surprised, the internet is full of over analytical, wanna be psychologist and sociologist. Now I see there people that work for the mmpa. Lol! Don’t worry about the point guys. I got it.
