Legendary reveals new pages, date for Morrison & Irving’s ‘Annihilator’

annihilator

Legendary Comics unveiled Grant Morrison’s Annihilator at New York Comic Con 2012, only for the creator-owned project to drop off the radar. However, now the publisher has released new details about the upcoming series, including a Sept. 4 release date and a first look at pages.

Featuring art by Frazer Irving, Annihilator centers on on Ray Spass, a former screenwriter with a brain tumor who gets a big break to write a huge blockbuster film.

“He gets the opportunity to write a big tentpole movie called Annihilator, which is based on a character called Max Nomax who’s an ancient pulp character,” Morrison explained in 2012. “Max Nomax isn’t actually an ancient pulp character, we made him up specifically for this. Our story is that Ray Spass has got this movie and he kind of makes a deal with the devil. Two days later, the FBI shows up at his door and says, ‘A man just turned up — in a black hole we created. Why does he want to meet you?’ He looks at the picture and says, ‘This is the new character in my new flick.'”

ONE MAN’S MIND IS THE MOST DANGEROUS PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE

Legendary Comics proudly presents Annihilator, an original graphic novel odyssey from the extraordinary mind of Grant Morrison. This 6-issue series is a subversive sci-fi adventure like no other, brought to life with stunning artwork from Frazer Irving (Judge Dredd, Necronauts).

Washed-up Hollywood screenwriter Ray Spass is caught in a downward spiral of broken relationships, wild parties and self-destruction. Out of luck and out of chances, he’s one failed script away from fading into obscurity. Little does he know he’s about to write the story of his life.

As his imagination runs rampant, Ray must join forces with his own fictional character Max Nomax on a reality-bending race to stop the entire universe from imploding… without blowing his own mind in the process.
