Quote of the Day | Geoff Johns’ 200-year run on ‘Superman’

“Two centuries. I would love to see what kind of foil or hologram Dan DiDio could put on a book in the year 2214.”

Superman writer Geoff Johns, responding to a question in his Reddit AMA thread about how long, in an ideal world, would his run on the series be. Other highlights from the Q&A can be found at Comic Book Resources.

Johns ONLY strength as a writer is the ability to reinvigorate a flagging character. Once he does that he runs out of steam and falls back on formulaic event after event after event. See Green Lantern before you cry foul. Flash as well.

Don’t tell Geoff the Infinity Formula might be a crock.

I haven’t read his Superman yet but I really love what Greg Pak is doing and I’m afraid it won’t get the love it deserves, like when Ed Brubaker was doing Detective during the Hush storyline.

@ czuga: I totally agree.. Johns is great coming out of the gate, but not much for stamina.

@Talmidge: I’m loving Pak’s Action Comics, I just hope they don’t derail his stories with anymore line wide crossovers, like Doomed, which has been decent, but feels forced.

Johns’ Superman has ALWAYS been great, though. I’m really looking forward to this.

What characters could possibly be left to mutilate, maim, rape, and otherwise ruin after 200 years of joyless, grimdark Didio Comics?

Sometimes it looks like DC will be forever associated with this one-trick pony writer. Oy vey.

It is will be interested to see where Johns takes Superman considering his wonderful run on Action Comics (with Gary Frank) prior to the New 52. Johns’ first goal is to combine or put a continuity patch on the various New 52 versions of Superman. I think he is capable of coming up with something new to say about the Man of Steel.
