UPDATE: "The Flash" Hasn't Cast Savitar, Says Berlanti
TV, Comic Books
First, Archie Andrews took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and now it’s Batgirl’s turn!
Challenged by Stella of the Batgirl to Oracle podcast to take the plunge for charity, the incoming Batgirl team of Brenden Fletcher, Cameron Stewart and Babs Tarr came up with a creative response: They recruited Barbara Gordon to stand in for them in a fun comic strip — and she brought along some unexpected help.
Their new direction — and new costume — for Batgirl struck a chord almost from the moment DC Comics announced the creative changes in July: Tumblr and deviantART were quickly flooded with fan art inspired by Barbara’s new threads (designed by Stewart and Tarr), and the cosplayers soon followed.
Fletcher launched Batgirl of Burnside, “an (un)official blog for the DC Comics series,” which has served as both a clearinghouse for some of that art and a way to interact with readers. That’s where the creators debuted this strip and an earlier one reminding fans to preorder Batgirl #35, the first issue of their run.
Batgirl #35 goes on sale Oct. 8.
