‘The Spirit’ celebrates 75 years with new hardcover collection

In celebration of “The Spirit’s” 75th anniversary, DC Entertainment will release a new hardcover collection of Will Eisner’s renowned creation.

“The Spirit” has passed through the hands of several legendary writers, including Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore and Jeph Loeb. DC announced the book at the DC Entertainment Retailer Roadshow.

Dynamite Entertainment acquired rights to the character last July and announced this month that Eisner Award winner Matt Wagner would pen an ongoing as part of the 75th anniversary celebration.

Well, this shows DC certainly still has the reprint rights to all of the Spirit. (Which they should, the Archives will always be the best way to keep the newspaper strips in print) What’s surprising is the inclusion of the Gaiman and Moore stories obviously from Spirit: New Adventures that Kitchen Sink did for a few issues. I thought Dark Horse still had the rights to that particular run. Guess the contract period went out and they then got to go to DC.
