With construction about to begin on the highly anticipated Star Wars-themed lands at Disney World and Disneyland, the company teases that one of the rides will be “unprecedented, in a way.”

Speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Jon Snoddy of Walt Disney Imagineering said that’s because of the involvement of Industrial Light & Magic, the renowned visual-effects studio acquired by Disney as part of its purchase of Lucasfilm.

While Snoddy didn’t indicate which ride, Business Insider suggests it could be the previously announced attraction “that takes riders through a battle between the evil First Order and the heroic Resistance,” inspired by The Force Awakens.

Revealed in August at the D23 Expo, Disney’s plans for Star Wars call for 14-acre themed areas at its parks in Orlando, Florida, and Anaheim, California. The initiative, which is expected to cost billions and take years to complete, is characterized as Disney’s “largest single-theme land expansion ever.”

The construction will result in the temporary closing of Rivers of America and Disneyland Railroad beginning Sunday, and the permanent closing of Big Thunder Ranch, including Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue, Big Thunder Ranch Petting Farm and Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree.

No opening dates have been announced.

If “Unprecedented” means we will project stuff on a movie screen unlike youve seen then… NO. I don’t know what imagineering has been doing but they seem to think slapping movie screens up is a great idea for an attraction.

For instance the Jack Sparrow attraction where you just stand there to watch a battle projected on these screens that make it look almost like they are in the room. but yet still look like holograms. my 8 year old nephew exclaimed…. “that was pretty lame”. i agree. they also ruined Test Track by tearing down all the old animatronic stuff and adding…. you guessed it…… movie screens.

Chad, The Jack Sparrow show was only a filler show until Disney figured out what they were going to do with that building. I believe that is going to be part of the Pixar expansion now.

And I agree with test track. I loved the old version of actually being in a car test area. Now it does seem all high tech and heartless. Designing a car is pretty cool though.

It would be a logistics nightmare, but I would love to see 2 person X-wings, each with a slightly different ride. Imagine 20 people in 10 X-wings in a battle with TIE fighters.

Probably some kind of a 3D X-Wing simulator ride where the rider is put in the middle of a dog fight with a tie fighter.

I was gonna wait until these attractions opened and decide for myself if they were cool or not but Chad has convinced me to stop being reasonable and just declare they suck now.
