’80s X-Men characters come to life in rocking music video

Comics may be a silent medium, but that hasn’t stopped the X-Men franchise from adding a number of musical mutants into their canon. Fortunately the filmmakers from Superhero Pop are determined to give rocking characters like Dazzler and Lila Cheney a voice — literally. After giving Dazzler her own music video last year, intergalactic thief and bad influence Lila Cheney has been given a turn behind the microphone. And yes, it both rocks and squeezes in a ton of appearances from lesser-known X-characters.

In addition to a spot-on Lila Cheney (performed by singer Sage Montclair in full ’80s Joan Jett glory) and Dazzler (Gentry Roth) on backing vocals, the fan-made music video features the complete nine-person New Mutants roster (that’s Cannonball, Sunspot, Mirage, Karma, Wolfsbane, Magma, Magik, Cypher and Warlock), the team’s dance instructor Stevie Hunter (complete with a shout-out to Kitty Pryde) and Strong Guy. Yes, Strong Guy. If you’re a fan of the X-Men and don’t mind having a super catchy song stuck in your head for the rest of the day, then “I Will Steal Your Heart!” is necessary viewing.

Wow that was great!

Very fun video – captured the spirit of those old New Mutants stories almost perfectly, and made me miss that group of kids at the same time. Nicely done!

This is just too amazing — can’t believe this exists. Stevie Hunter!! Dead-on portrayal of Sam and Bobby! The other New Mutants are all little more than cameos, but they’re all pretty great as well. And the song! What are the odds that something that excels in the fan-service department this much would have such a perfect song, too?

I wish Fox would hire everyone who worked on this as consultants for Josh Boone’s New Mutants movie, but I fully expect this video to be the most accurate adaptation I ever see of the New Mutants as they exist in my mind. I’m kind of just amazed that we got this much.

That was amazing,

Wait, so Marvel is going to shut down that guys animated stuff on YouTube but they are going to allow this just a couple weeks later? Where is the consistency in that?

I love this so much!!!

Naglfar, Marvel does not make X-Men music videos, so this does not constitute direct competition of a product they actually produce. It’s still in violation of copyright law, but many companies turn a blind eye to fan works that don’t compete with their own products.

Marvel does make animated shows, so a fan-made animated series is direct competition. They would have to go after something like that to protect their intellectual property.

Marvel doesn’t currently have the the rights to X-men in film and tv, though. Doesn’t Fox totally control that?

I wish this was a show……

My son enjoyed these videos a lot even though he doesn’t know the characters that well.

Besides the original New Mutants graphic novel, any recommendations on trades that will introduce him to the characters including the members who joined the New Mutants later (Magma, Magik, Cypher and Warlock), Dazzler and Lila Cheney?

Thanks… and keep on rockin’! :D
