Amazing 3D cake reveals Homer Simpson as a Stormtrooper (Mmm … cake)

After delighting and disturbing us in 2014 with a Ralph Wiggum anatomical cross-section cake, Kylie Mangles of Letterpress Bakery kept one foot in Springfield and the other in a galaxy far, far away for a recent project: an incredible 3D cake depicting Homer Simpson as a Stormtrooper.

Mangles details the process both on her website and in a terrific video produced by Capture the Moment Media.

“We had to decide what design to do, and Star Wars was in the air, but we couldn’t just do a simple Star Wars cake,” Mangles explains of the collaboration. “We were on the hunt for some good inspiration when we found some street art by Ephin Cozmo and knew this was the one. What could be more perfect then a Simpsons-themed Star Wars cake?!”

Have you ever had cake that wasn’t 3D? Seems an odd distinction to make.

^A bit awkwardly phrased, I suppose; but I think they’re differentiating between this sort of standing sculpted cake and a decorated sheet cake.
