These manga-inspired chairs are all about the speed lines

Japanese design firm Nendo celebrates the visual language of manga in a series of 50 whimsical chairs created for New York gallery Friedman Benda for the upcoming Milan design fair.

Made of polished aluminum, each piece in the “Manga Chair” collection showcases an element from manga, from speed lines to word balloons to a swirl, suggesting dizziness.

“Manga consist of a series of frames on a single sheet of paper that creates a sequence,” Nendo said in a statement. “Similarly, 50 standard chairs are lined up in a grid, each one conjures up a sense of story, and each with a design element from manga.”
