Publishing | Filip Sablik, BOOM! Studios’ president of publishing and marketing, describes the company’s announced cutback in the number of titles as a contrarian move: “All of the major mainstream comic publishers are pushing out more titles. Since February’s ComicsPro meeting, it’s something we’ve consistently heard from the front lines of the industry. So we decided to swim upstream a bit by trimming back our line and really focus, doubling down on our marketing and our positioning for each title, believing that a sniper-like approach would yield better profitability.” [ICv2]
Saturday is the deadline to get your order form for this month’s Previews catalog to your local comic book shop. With that date looming, Edison Rex co-creators Chris Roberson and Dennis Culver are hoping to make Edison Rex, Vol. 2: Heir Apparent one of the most-wanted trade paperbacks.
In fact, writer Roberson and artist Culver concocted an eye-catching wanted poster to drum up interest in the upcoming collection, which includes issues 7-12 of the Monkeybrain Comics digital series. The creative team was quite willing to discuss the latest news with me about the villain turned superhero.
In what is sure to be a paper-saving initiative, Marvel Comics will offer copies of its Marvel Previews catalogue on the Marvel Comics Digital App beginning November 6. A digital download of the catalogue will also come bundled with any digital download code in the publisher’s print comics. It will transition to a free download for all users the month its contents are on sale.
Marvel is currently the only publisher to have a catalogue separate from the massive monthly tome of Diamond Previews, the catalogue from which retailers can plan which issues and products they plan to order. Previews contains solicitations for products set to hit in three months, giving retailers and fans an advanced — if somewhat ambiguous — look at what to expect in the coming months. Marvel Previews is available free with purchase of the main Previews catalogue, or for $1.99 by itself.
