Iron Man 2
Iron Man 2 trailer debuts
Over on CBR you can watch the first trailer for Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2. Robert Downey Jr. is brash, Mickey Rourke is Russian, Don Cheadle is War Machine, Gwyneth Paltrow makes out with an Iron Man helmet, Scarlet Johansson and Gary Shandling are both gorgeous…what are you waiting for?

Jon Favreau’s not directing Avengers
Sounds like some other director will be hollering “Avengers Assemble!” to peel a gaggle of high-paid actors away from the craft services table: Jon Favreau confirms to MTV News that he won’t be directing Marvel Studios’ big movie mash-up of its various superhero franchises. As reported at MTV’s Splash Page blog, Favreau says he won’t be available to direct the Avengers film, though he is one of its executive producers and will have a hands-on role in that regard. Moreover, Favreau argues that his years-long immersion in Iron Man‘s “tech-based” milieu might have made him a poor choice to bridge the gap with, say, the Lord of the Rings mysticism and Shakespearean grandeur of Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming Thor movie. Which is a good point, now that I think of it: The Avengers movie will most likely include three relatively realistic super-science-based heroes (Iron Man, Captain America, and the Hulk) and a Norse god. That’s a tough row to hoe even in the wilder and woollier world of superhero comics.
Anyway, check out more from Favreau, including musings on potential cameos in Iron Man 2, at the link or in the video above.

Stark Industries: Changing the world for a better future
Marvel has launched a Stark Industries website to help promote the upcoming sequel to the big screen blockbuster Iron Man. I remember reading about employees from Stark Industries being at the Marvel booth for recruitment purposes, and it looks like they’re doing something similar on the web. Head over there and fill out their online employment application, which includes questions like “Please briefly describe your most heroic act” and “What is your greatest hope for human kind?”
You can also check out the site’s one sole press release:

SDCC ’09 | Marvel’s signing schedule
Marvel sent over their booth signing schedule for the San Diego Comic-Con … of note: Stan Lee at 1 p.m. and Warren Ellis at 6 p.m. Friday, and an Iron Man 2 signing at 11 a.m. Saturday. The line for that one started forming last week.
You can also find their panel schedule here.

Five things a movie fan should do in San Diego
Between panels, autographs, world premieres, sneak previews, merchandise, booths and meeting other fans, the San Diego Comic Con offers a full plate for the movie fan. Here are six things — a small sampling, really — for the movie fan to do at the con:
1. Check out some clips from Iron Man 2: I haven’t seen any announcements about who exactly will be at the Iron Man 2 panel yet, but no doubt with principal photography finished up, a few of the folks involved probably have an opening in their schedule. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Mickey Rourke or any of the other cast members show up for the con. And no doubt they’ll bring something cool to show the audience. (4-5 p.m. Saturday, Hall H).

The Fifth Color’s 6 Points of Marvel Zombietude for SDCC
You can feel it, can’t you? After the strange wave that is the last week in June for Marvel comics, things seem to be getting… smaller at the shelves. You not walking away with as much. You feel the tide is rolling back. And, if you’re like me, you took home one title this week and when you looked in the calm clear water in your glass at lunch, you saw a ripple. A ripple of things to come.
The ground shook, and you ignored it. People came to you looking for costuming ideas and you ignored that too. Only when hotel rooms started getting bandied about, when the desperate cries for tickets rang out like sirens in the air, only when you felt that hoover-like pull at your wallet and woke to dreams of the fresh salt sea air of San Diego did you understand.
Comic-Con is coming.
This is it, folks. Gird your loins! Hydrate! Deodorize! For the mad press of fan flesh and pro extravaganza is upon us once more! And, of this we can be certain, nothing will ever be the same again. These are the six unmissable Comic Con panels for the Marvel devotee.
Because we can’t be sure of anything in the House of Ideas, these won’t be ranked, just listed by day and time. Synchronized watches…. now.
