What better way to play ‘Minecraft’ than on a custom Redstone PC?

When Spencer Kern decided to build a PC from scratch, he turned to Minecraft for inspiration. After all, if the sole purpose of the computer for playing the wildly popular sandbox video game, it should look the part, right?

And so began the Redstone PC, a beautiful cube that resembles the Redstone blocks from Minecraft. That in itself would probably be enough for most people, but not Kern, who also crafted a custom keyboard, controller and mouse. As he explains in his breakdown of the project, there’s even a Steve minifigure.

LEGO takes on ‘Minecraft’ with ‘LEGO Worlds’

Less than two months after WB Games and TT Games announced LEGO’s answer to Disney Infinity and Skylanders, they’re returned to officially unveil what appears to be LEGO’s response to the wildly popular Minecraft.

Available beginning today through STEAM Early Access, to allow for feedback and improvements, LEGO Worlds is an open-world, fully customizable game for players to explore and manipulate with LEGO models and a brick-by-brick editing tool, unlocking everything from cowboys and vampires to steamrollers and digging machines as they go.

‘The Simpsons’ opening, all of Springfield recreated in ‘Minecraft’

With the release last month of The Simpsons content pack for Minecraft, players had access to Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie and 19 other characters, but no Springfield. However, Minecrafters are nothing if not industrious, and one of them has not only constructed the entire town, but also recreated the show’s opening sequence.

Given the constraints — for instance, there’s no skateboard for Bart, and there are a limited number of residents — the recreation is surprisingly faithful. More impressive, however, is Springfield itself, which “Barely Regal” has made available for an interactive tour. You can check out both in the videos below.

The Simpsons are heading to ‘Minecraft’

Over the 25-year history of The Simpsons, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie have been featured in a lot of video games, from 1991’s The Simpsons Arcade Game to 2012’s Tapped Out. And come next month, they’ll make the leap into the world of Minecraft.

Xbox has partnered with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products to debut The Simpsons content packs for Minecraft Xbox 360 and Xbox One editions, featuring not only the Simpsons clan but also 19 characters from Springfield Elementary.

Passings | Roy Peterson, editorial cartoonist for the Vancouver Sun, died Sunday at the age of 77. During his 40-year career, Peterson won more National Newspaper Awards than any other Canadian creator, but he was remembered by his peers chiefly for his sense of humor and his mentoring of younger artists.
