Legal | Iranian political cartoonist Atena Farghadani and her lawyer Mohammad Moghimi have been acquitted on charges of “non-adultery illegitimate relations.” The charges were brought after the two shook hands during one of Moghimi’s visits to Farghadani in prison, where she’s serving a 13-year sentence for drawing a cartoon critical of the Iranian parliament. The “illegitimate relations” charges carried a maximum penalty of 99 lashes, and in the course of the investigation, Farghadani was subjected to involuntary pregnancy and virginity tests. She’s not out of the woods yet, however: The prosecutor could appeal the acquittal. [CBLDF]

Comics A.M. | New Kickstarter study reveals failure rates

Kickstarter

Kickstarter

Crowdfunding | A new report released by Kickstarter shows that about 9 percent of the projects on the crowdfunding platform failed to deliver the promised rewards. While that is fairly consistent across all categories, comics do appear to do a bit better than most. Another interesting tidbit: Projects that raise less than $1,000 are the most likely to fail. [Kickstarter]

Creators | Writer Kyle Higgins talks about his new Power Rangers comic, Green Ranger: Year One, which focuses on the Ranger who was originally a villain before reforming and joining the team: “Basically, in going the modernization route I decided that I didn’t really want to jump in and tell new origins of the Power Rangers or anything like that. So looking at the introduction of the Green Ranger to the team, of him joining the team, was the window that I took for the story in order to get us into the world.” [Hero Complex]

Power Rangers morph into the perfect wedding attendants

power rangers5

If we’ve learned anything from two decades of Power Rangers, it’s that Rita Repulsa can ruin just about any occasion, from a first date to a parade to a picnic. So why take a risk with something as important as a wedding?

Ensuring that Goldar, Baboo and Squatt wouldn’t show up to spoil their special day, bride and groom Nawwal and Ameerul enlisted the Power Rangers to stand guard at their ceremony, held Saturday in Rawang, Malaysia. Ameerul in his navy suit and Nawwal in her white gown passed between the eight superpowered sentinels as they walked down the aisle; they also accompanied the couple to their reception, keeping a lookout for any signs of Rita and her minions.

DarkseidSixInch

Duane in Orange County, Calif. is a man of action — action figures, that is.

“I have always had toys, but growing up I couldn’t have nearly as much as I wanted,” he said. “… Now, when I want something, I seek it out furiously. Unfortunately, as I get older the collectibles that I want get more and more expensive.”

Check out his collection of action figures — Power Rangers, Doctor Who, DC Comics, Avengers and more — below.

This weekend, it’s Power Morphicon

Green Ranger by Scott Shaw!

A Power Rangers convention probably isn’t something we’d typically cover here, but fans of comic creator Scott Shaw! should dig this. Shaw! has created the above artwork, which is one of the prints given to attendees at this weekend’s Power Morphicon, the Official Power Rangers convention. Shaw! will also be there to sign the prints.

Power Morphicon kicks off tomorrow in Pasadena, Calif.
