You, too, can claim to have beaten Daredevil
Daredevil #28 is about “one man young Daredevil feared, and now Matt Murdock is representing him in court.” The cover sports a young bully wearing a T-shirt that claims, “I beat Daredevil,” and now thanks to the folks at WeLoveFine.com, you too can claim you got the best of Matt Murdock with a similar T-shirt.
The “I Beat Daredevil” is one of several new ones on the site; they’ve also got the “Fake Geek Girl” shirt Kevin linked to on Friday, as well as several Hawkeye-related shirts that were curated by Matt Fraction — including one that simply says “Bro.”
Check out the I Beat Daredevil shirt, as well as the Chris Samnee cover that inspired it, after the jump.
‘Fake Geek Girl’ tees (for guys), Cypress and Suburbia designs
It’s been, oh, about six months since the last “fake geek girls” flare-up, but no matter when the next argument erupts, WeLoveFine.com has you covered.
Showcased in the T-shirt collection curated by writer Kelly Sue DeConnick are two designs made especially for (in her words) “Male-Type-Guy-Dudes.”
“Look. Here’s the deal: you’re not fooling anyone. We know you’re not Geek Girls. (Your unsightly stubble and Adam’s apples give you away.),” DeConnick writes. “It’s okay. We understand. Being a Geek Girl is a pretty fabulous thing. We get it and love you for your aspiration. But the thing is, you’re not a Geek Girl … because you’re a guy. So quit pretending and learn to love yourself for who you are.”
Marvel heroes ready to rumble in grudge match T-shirts
Marvel history is filled with grudges, the kind that aren’t settled with harsh words and tough love over warm tea. Nope, they’re settled with fists — or sometimes claws, hammers or psychic blasts. WeLoveFine celebrates three of these ongoing rivalries with some new shirts featuring playbills for the brawl-to-end-all: Professor X vs. Magneto, Thor vs. Loki and Wolverine vs. Sabretooth.
I have it on good authority that they’re hoping to do more of them, so who would you like to see next? Spider-Man vs. Doctor Octopus? Captain America vs. The Red Skull? Howard the Duck vs. Dr. Bong? Share your ideas in the comments section.
Threadless announces Iron Man shirt contest winners
If you’re trying to decide what to wear to see Iron Man 3 on opening night later this week, Threadless has you covered — or at least your torso covered, anyway. A few months ago they had a “design an Iron Man” shirt contest, and the winners are now on sale on the site. I’ve posted a few of my favorites below.
WWE debuts Jill Thompson-designed shirt for CM Punk
CM Punk might have had a rough Sunday taking on the Undertaker and his unbeaten streak at Wrestlemania, but his week seems to be getting better: The WWE has released a new shirt for the former WWE champion designed by Beasts of Burden artist Jill Thompson.
Thompson is no stranger to the wrestling world, having designed gear for Daniel Bryan and having teamed with Mick Foley for a couple of wrestling-themed kids’ books. And Punk,a comics fan, recently penned the intro to the Avengers vs. X-Men hardcover. Now where’s that Marvel book they once talked about?
New ElfQuest shirts make their debut at Emerald City Comicon
It’s the 35th anniversary of Wendy and Richard Pini’s ElfQuest this year, and as part of the celebration they’ve teamed up with WeLoveFine.com to offer several new ElfQuest T-shirts.
“The announcement of our ElfQuest line was originally planned for a Saturday panel announcement as part of WaRP’s presence at Emerald City Comic Con, but some very enthusiastic and cyber-savvy fans sleuthed out the team-up early and shared the news, so we’re hitting the web sooner than planned,” said WeLoveFine’s Nicole Campos.
The shirts are available now both online and at WeLoveFine’s ECCC booth, #838-839. Check some of them out below. And don’t forget that a new ElfQuest story is currently running over at BoingBoing each week.
Impress Chris Claremont with your X-Men T-shirt design, win a trip to San Diego
Although tickets for this year’s Comic-Con International don’t go on sale until Feb. 16, it’s likely they’ll go fast, and many fans who want to attend will have to look for other ways to get a badge.
Here’s one of those alternative opportunities: WeLoveFine is holding an X-Men & Wolverine Design Contest, with the grand prize being a trip to San Diego for this year’s. All you have to do to enter is design a T-shirt featuring the X-Men that’s good enough to impress the judges — one of whom is legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont.
Claremont, one of comics’ “Iron Men,” knows a thing or two about the X-Men, and he worked with some of the industry’s best artists during his almost 200-issue run on Uncanny X-Men. So it’s a bit intimating, to say the least, but if you’re up for the challenge, then best of luck … we hope you survive the experience.
More details on the contest can be found below.
You, too, can heart Hawkeye with these T-shirts
Inspired by the shirt wears on David Aja’s cover for Hawkeye #9, WeLoveFine.com is offering an exclusive tee design so men and women can publicly express their love for the beleaguered Clint Barton.
The “I Heart Hawkeye” shirts come in assorted colors — black, gray or white for men, and black, pink or white for women — and in sizes ranging from small to XXXL. They’re $25 for men, and $20 for women. Presumably a “You Dead Now, Bro” shirt will follow soon.
You check out the designs, and Aja’s full cover for Issue 9, below. Hawkeye #7 is on sale now.
McKelvie’s Captain Marvel, fake elements and more
This week sees the release of Captain Marvel #9 , which boasts a cover by Young Avengers/Phonogram artist Jamie McKelvie … and now you can sport that cover on a T-shirt, available from WeLoveFine.com in both a men’s and women’s versions.
Speaking of WeLoveFine …
SuperF*ckers now available to watch and wear
SuperF*ckers made its animated debut today on the Cartoon Hangover site. Based on the comics by James Kochalka published several years ago by Top Shelf, it features, as Kevin noted earlier this week, “teen superheroes doing, and saying, bad and occasionally disgusting things.” And some very funny things.
A censored version of the first episode can be found below, and you can watch the uncensored version on YouTube. Neither one of them are really safe for work, though, so put your headphones on before watching.
In addition, once you’ve enjoyed the cartoon, you can buy the merch … WeLoveFine has a whole Cartoon Hangover section on their site now, featuring the SuperF*cker characters, and to celebrate the show’s premiere, the above shirt featuring Ultra Richard is their deal of the day. They’ve also got one featuring Jack Krak that’s tied to the first episode. You can find images of some of them below.
Comic Couture | Niles, Moore, Jones team for comic tees
This week brought the release of the latest round of “Comics-On Tees” by Threadless, the crowdsourcing T-shirt site. Following in the footsteps of John Cassaday, Brandon Graham, Ben Templesmith, Becky Cloonan, Jeff Lemire, Anders Nilsen and many more, the artists this time around include Kelley Jones, Tony Moore, Chet Zar and Menton3.
The theme this time, provided by Steve Niles, is “Bad Night at the Precinct,” and each shirt features a different monster’s mug shot. Check’em all out after the jump.
Comic Couture | Jersey Devil vs. Hurricane Sandy, and more
Last weekend I posted a couple of ways you can help the victims of Hurricane Sandy, and here’s another one — Perhapanauts creators Todd Dezago and Craig Rousseau are offering a $20 Jersey Devil T-shirt on their site, with all proceeds going to the Red Cross. Help folks out and look good while doing it–what could be better than that?
Comic Couture | Cyclops was right, Bat eyegear and more
If you’re a Cyclops fan and still smarting from the end of Avengers vs. X-Men, WeLoveFine.com has a constructive way to express your anger–at least more constructive than, say, unleashing a Sentinel or something. They received a ton of requests for a “Cyclops was Right” shirt (a la their “Magneto was Right” shirt) and were able to turn one around fairly quickly.
Brian Wood and Ryan Kelly play opening chords of Anthem
You can’t keep a good project down. And as it turns out, you can’t keep secret a project two creators really want to do — even if they haven’t found a publisher for it yet.
After hinting at it for more than a year, Brian Wood and Ryan Kelly debuted a piece of promotional art for a comic series titled Anthem. The image (you can see it in full below) is being used for a limited-edition T-shirt print; only 50 shirts will be printed, and I’d estimate since it was announced Tuesday they’ve already sold a good number. Maybe our Robot 6 readership can clear them out.
Pit Spidey against his archenemies in Threadless design competition
Marvel and the T-shirt site Threadless have teamed up for a design competition: Create a shirt “inspired by the battle between Spider-Man and his archenemies.”
The rules spell out what you can and can’t have Spider-Man doing on the shirt:
- Use your original artwork.
- Characters outside of the Marvel universe are not allowed, but Spidey can do battle with any (or all) of the following villains: Dr. Octopus, Electro, Sandman, Venom, Lizard, Kraven, Green Goblin, Vulture, Rhino, and Shocker.
- Spider-Man cannot be used on his own, but his archenemies may go solo.
- Remember Spider-Man is a super HERO, so he always wins—and he does it without blood and guts.
- You may not use actor likenesses or any logos in your design.
- No political or adult content (sex, smoking, drinking, etc.) is allowed.
- The characters cannot be represented as children or animals.
So no solo swingin’, no Spot or Stilt Man, no boozin’ it up and no Spider-Ham. Other than that, go wild. The shirts will be judged by the Threadless community, with the most popular ones going on to be printed and sold on the site.
