Help make the ‘Assault on Wayne Manor’ LEGO set a reality

thumb640x360

So there’s this LEGO crowdsourcing site I just learned about this week called LEGO Cuusoo where:

1. Fans submit their own fantasy LEGO sets.
2. Other fans vote on them if they think they are cool.
3. LEGO actually reviews all the submissions that receive 10,000 votes and decide if they want to pursue it as an actual LEGOS set.
4. The person who came up with the idea, if it gets turned into a real LEGO set, gets a percentage of sales.

People submit all kinds of LEGO creations, from models of the Apple Store to Legend of Zelda sets (which unfortunately didn’t pass muster when reviewed by LEGO — you can see recent review results here). And of course, there are some comic-inspired projects, not the least of which is this very awesome Assault on Wayne Manor playset.

Duane in Orange County, Calif. is a man of action — action figures, that is.

Check out his collection of action figures — Power Rangers, Doctor Who, DC Comics, Avengers and more — below.

Eleven-year-old shows us her Martian Manhunter collection

IMG_5815

If you did a Venn diagram of 11-year-old girls and J’onn J’onzz collectors, it’s very likely the intersection would be sparse — but it wouldn’t be completely empty. Brad from Vermont — the “Green” state — recently shared some pictures of his daughter Taryn’s Martian Manhunter collection.

“She is a fiend for the hero,” her father told us. “She is the only 11-year-old girl who wears Martian Manhunter shirts to school. None of her friends know who he is but think her collection is cool.”

Check out her collection below.

Quadruple your fun with four submissions in today’s Shelf Porn

20130802_082414-1

We’ve said before here on Shelf Porn that it isn’t the size of the collection that matters, only the passion of the person submitting it. Sometimes it’s also not about the number of pictures submitted, either. With that in mind, here are four collections I’ve received recently that had a lot to say in a few images.

NYCC ’13 | Cuddle up with Itty Bitty Hellboy and Abe

itty bitty hellboy

We’re living in a “Lil’ Golden Age,” as publishers have discovered the genius of comics creators Art Baltazar and Franco Aureliani.

After showing off their trademark style on the DC heroes in comics like Tiny Titans and Superman Family Adventures, the duo has been tapped to create fun new versions of Hellboy and Battlestar Galactica. The collaborators also have their own line of original characters, following a successful Kickstarter project.

The kid-friendly designs they’ve applied to comics also work pretty well as plush toys, something Dark Horse is jumping all over it introduces plush versions of Itty Bitty Hellboy and Abe Sapien.

No word yet on when you’ll be able to cuddle with Mike Mignola’s signature creations, but Tomopop can show you what they’ll look like.

SDCC ’13 | Check out Hasbro’s Marvel figures display

diaroma-pym-wolvie

To show off their line of Marvel figures at the San Diego Comic Con this year, Hasbro went all out and create a huge “fight scene” diorama featuring Marvel characters of all shapes and sizes — including a few custom figures built specifically for the display. Justin Aclin, who does PR for Hasbro as his day job (by night — or, actually, by morning commute — he writes Star Wars and SHOOT First comics for Dark Horse), gave me a tour of the booth and told me that it took them five hours to put the display together.

Check out some shots of it, along with some of their other action figures, below.
