As the “Shit _____ Say” juggernaut steams ahead unabated, it should come as no surprise that comic-book fandom — specifically, superhero fandom — gets a turn at the meme. Courtesy of Jawiin, we present the funny and well-produced “Shit Comic Book Nerds Say.”

Never let it be said that Dash Shaw isn’t an artist who follows his bliss. The video above represents the fourth time Shaw has drawn a faithful adaptation of a segment from the kind of gross reality show Blind Date, in which more or less attractive young people are brought together to do something “fun” and either get along terribly or end the evening swapping spit or, y’know, whatever. The amusing part of doing this as a video is that you can hear the original audio the whole time, and trust me, the sound is worth the price of admission alone toward the end there. Kagan McLeod‘s Infinite Kung Fu collection arrives from Top Shelf at the San Diego Comic Con next week, and to promote it Top Shelf has tipped us off to this fun little trailer that Kagan and his brother Sean put together. Take a gander, and if you like it, you can read the first 250 pages of the book over on Top Shelf’s website.

So it comes with particular delight to not only receive news that the artist is doing a new fine art print for CBLDF, but that he did a process video showing how it was made as well as talking about why he’s doing it for CBLDF. Here’s the video:

SPOILER ALERT: This Hulk-themed parody of Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan by the merry miscreants of Marvel Super Heroes: What The–?! contains no scenes of hot Hulk-on-Hulk action, and Bruce Banner does not attempt to activate his potential inner Red Hulk by feverishly masturbating without realizing that the Maestro is asleep in the corner of the room. That said, it’s a pretty damn funny video anyway, with the Hulk in the Natalie Portman role and the Red Hulk as her doppelganger and/or Mila Kunis. (Man, now that’s a sentence I never thought I’d write.) I just keep mentally circling back to the Leader, who is somehow even sleazier than Vincent Cassell’s French-stereotype choreographer, telling the Hulk that the Red Hulk’s smashing is superior because “He’s not faking it!”, and cracking up all over again.

Bobby Chiu hosts a nearly hour-long discussion with veteran artist J. Scott Campbell covering his process, his childhood, his early career, his influences, selling original art, and much more.

In this nicely produced video, part of WPB Labs’ RADAR series, collaborators Ben McCool and Nikki Cook discuss the creation of Memoir, their upcoming sci-fi thriller from Image Comics about an entire town with no memory. McCool spoke with Comic Book Resources about the miniseries just last week. Memoir #1 arrives in stores on Jan. 19.

Move over, Rudolph and Charlie Brown: There’s a new Christmas cartoon classic in town. Exploding from the pages of Henry & Glenn Forever — the very very funny romance/gag-strip comic chronicling the eternal love between musclebound, black-clad hardcore progenitors Henry Rollins and Glenn Danzig — comes the Henry & Glenn Forever X-Mas Special, an animated short by cartoonist and animator Tom Neely. Neely, who co-created Henry & Glenn Forever with fellow Igloo Tornado art-collective members Gin Stevens, Scot Nobles, and Dino Fucker, serves up a heartwarming tale reminiscent of O. Henry’s “Gift of the Magi” — if, that is, “Gift of the Magi” included a visit from Black Santa and Krampus, a jam session with notorious Satanists Darryl Hall and John Oates, and an exchange of thong underwear and a book about Nazi werewolves, all in honor of the birthday of H.P. Lovecraft. It’s the perfect reminder that the Henry & Glenn Forever comic makes a great fishnet-stocking stuffer. Season’s greetings, you goddamn son of a bitch!

YouTube user haiku132 created a short, sweet fan film from J. Torres and Tim Levins’s short comic How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love John Byrne. It’s simple pan-and-scan, but the music and pacing are just right. Take two minutes to enjoy it.

And there was much rejoicing (yay): I fired up my RSS reader this morning when what to my wondering eyes should appear but a new Perry Bible Fellowship comic strip by Nichols Gurewitch! Reunited and it feels so good.

This has to be the book title of the year: The Horror! The Horror! Comic Books the Government Didn’t Want You to Read! The good folks at Abrams ComicArts have put together a pretty swell little trailer for this collection of pre-Comics Code horror and crime comics from the ’50s, edited and contextualized by Jim Trombetta with an introduction by Mr. Goosebumps himself, R.L. Stine. You can gather a couple of salient points from the video: 1) These things really were almost unbelievably lurid and gross, especially when you consider the relentlessly wholesome state of pop culture in general at the time; 2) Based on the video’s snippets from an anti-comic book TV report called Confidential File, which is included in its entirety on a DVD that comes with the book, men in suits took this stuff way too seriously back in the day.

Anime News Network has picked up on a fascinating trend over on YouTube: Anime and manga fans who show off their swag to support the industry.

The manga industry’s push against scan sites, which resulted in the shutdown of OneManga, seems to have raised awareness across otakudom that watching pirated anime and reading bootleg manga online is illegal. The anime industry has been faltering for years—long before manga began to wobble in 2007—but the general tendency among fans is to blame the publishers (for high prices and bad translations), so this is an interesting shift. It also mirrors the trend of “haul videos,” in which shoppers show off the results of their latest shopping spree.

This particular movement was started by The Right Arm of Edward Elric, who appears to have been doing video reviews for some time. In her introductory video, she discusses the industry’s problems and says, “I don’t see anyone at all doing anything publicly to help. So I guess, let me be the first person to do it.” She pledges to buy either one anime DVD or two manga a month, and make a video showing her purchase, including the receipt, and she encourages others to do the same. A number of similar videos have sprouted since then, all with the title “Sustain the Industry.”

Smart industry insiders should be watching these videos, as they provide an interesting glimpse into the lives of anime and manga consumers. There’s quite a range of demographics (although the age range was pretty tight, maybe from 12 to 25), and commentary on what affects their buyingo Palkia 678, one of the younger-looking vloggers was quite articulate in saying that he used to watch anime online and didn’t realize he was watching it illegally, and explaining how he did extra work to earn money to buy his anime legitimately. Also, the backgrounds are fascinating, sometimes worthy of our Shelf Porn posts, sometimes suggesting a very modest lifestyle. It’s a marketing researcher’s dream, a direct look into a person’s house while they display what they bought and explain why they bought it. For the rest of us, it’s heartening evidence that the kids really are all right.

A trailer has been released for Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts, the newly announced feature-length documentary about by Sequart and Respect Films, the folks behind Grant Morrison: Talking with Gods.

“Oh god,” Ellis wrote this morning on his blog. “The trailer made it to YouTube, and people are taunting me with it. Let’s get this over with. I have, at best, a face for radio. Unfortunately, I don’t have a voice for radio. This is horrifying and I don’t want to look.”

The documentary is scheduled for completion next year.

Remember that video we posted last month of a Spanish Alan Moore impersonator talking about Watchmen and fandom, and eating a page of From Hell? Of course you do. Well, it turns out there’s a rather surreal — okay, more surreal — sequel featuring an ode to Unbreakable, a cartoon snake … and Jumble, the idea elf who lives in Moore’s beard. Jay Irani has posted a trailer for an hour-long documentary he’s producing called Shades of Grey — An Examination of Race Relations in Comic Books.

I’ve already lost track of how many times I’ve watched this video this morning. It’s a Spanish-speaking Alan Moore impersonator, holding court on Watchmen, From Hell, fans — “You all have the head full of stupidities” — his first marriage, traveling to Andorra to buy a radio cassette player, and rolling a joint with a Green Arrow comic. It’s … mesmerizing (and subtitled, fear not).
